Short Course - MSMWHS216 - Operate Breathing Apparatus

Through the combination of theory and practical training, this course provides participants with the necessary knowledge and skills required to safely use and operate respiratory protective equipment. This training is suited to all personnel required to wear respiratory protective equipment to work in a confined space or an irrespirable atmosphere.




Targeted Audience

There are no formal entry requirements stipulated for this training programme; however participants are required to possess basic literacy and numeracy skills.
The training package requires a candidate to be able to:

  • Read, communicate and interpret permits or other documentation associated with the wearing of breathing apparatus for the job, and to establish and maintain communication with appropriate personnel and interpret manufactures procedures
  • Write to the level required for workplace reports including reporting / recording of faulty or damaged equipment
  • Perform calculations to determine the available working time from a breathing apparatus set and similar activities

Learning Methods

The assessment for this programme has been designed to assess a person’s competence in accordance with the Manufacturing Training Package (MSM), any relevant Legislation and the proprietary requirements of the organisation or workplace. The assessment will consist of both a written and practical component.
