Road Crash Rescue

Road Crash Rescue applies to members of a rescue team. Road Crash Rescue covers the competency required to gain access to and extricate entrapped casualty/s from vehicles travelling on the road such as cars, motorcycles, buses, trucks and semi-trailers while minimising the potential for further injury and preserving the integrity of evidence. 


Road Crash Rescue requires the responder to access entrapped casualty/s using a range of techniques and to operate specialist equipment to undertake the rescue. On successful completion of the course participants will be able to carry out the following;

  • Prepare and respond to road crash rescue operations
  • Establish and maintain rescue scene safety 
  • Manage casualties 
  • Remove casualties from entrapment 
  • Conclude road crash rescue operations 

Targeted Audience

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements stipulated for this program, however candidates must possess basic literacy and numeracy skills in order to communicate and complete documentation in accordance with workplace policy and procedures.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • PUAFIR215 - Prevent injury (Fire sector specific)
  • PUAEME001B - Provide emergency care
  • PUAEME002C - Manage injuries at emergency incident
  • PUASAR022A - Participate in a rescue operation
  • PUASAR024A - Undertake road crash rescue

  • A nationally recognised Statement of Attainment is issued upon participant being deemed competent in all assessment items.

Learning Methods

Candidates will be required to complete a written workbook to assess the theory component. A number of simulated practical assessments will also be used to allow participants to demonstrate the application.
